No model in my MAXI fleet has
pleased me more than my Grissom. Patterned loosely after the Estes Trident, it is
the favorite of my fleet of models. I have this model in two sizes. This maxi
version as well as a mini version (30" tall) The Maxi version has BT55 main
tubes with BT20 chamber tubes, staning 6'1" tall. The Mini version uses BT5
main tubes with Apogee Components PT6 chamber tubes.
Other than the fact that this model
has an upper and lower main tube with 3 chamber tubes, there is no resemblance to the
Estes Trident. This model has different fins, located on the main body rather than
the chamber tubes, a much longer lower main tube with highly detailed engine area as well
as highly detailed solar panels. A new design based on an old favorite.

Maiden flight of the
Maxi-Grissom. Note the appearance of solar panels just above the fins as well as
engine detail that I added. The solar panels kept breaking off until I figured out
how to secure them properly. |

Grissom on a pad in
the background as I prepare another pad during our 4th of July launch in Merrimack, NH |
 |
She sits proud on the
pad and is a certain crowd pleaser in flight! |

Another launch photo,

Nice angle of a
launch. This model used a single 24mm motor and flew best on the D12-3 |
 |
And, always a good
recovery. Over 25 flights and never a failure of chute deployment on this model |
 |
Here I am holding my
Maxi-Grissom. On this and the next photo you can clearly see the solar panels I had
on the original design. UNBELEIVABLE flights on D12-3's. She would climb
straight and true, slow while still going straight up, NO tilt, and JUST befor leaning
over, at zero velocity, the chute would deploy. wonderful! My favorite model, bar
none. |

Great launch angle.
I love shots like this. |
 |
Another beautiful
flight for the crowd. |
