Merrimack
Library Cardboard Boat Race 2000!
Short photo essay of
the 2000 Merrimack Library Cardboard Boat Race..

| Well, this time it only took me 6 months to get
the photo library online for the cardboard boat race. I'm getting better! This year, like all previous years was just, well, special! It was fun,
nerve wracking, exhilarating, educational... All those participating; staff, boat
builders and spectators alike, had a great time and a wonderful day! |
| With the following
Photo essay's, I hope to capture some of the excitement and fun that was the rule for the
day. Special thanks go out to Pat Heinrich and Bruce & Sue Luhrs, without whom
this event would not exist! The photo essay's
(albums) are located via the links below. Enjoy! Oh! And I love feedback, so
feel free to drop me a note!
The photo at the top of this page is me crossing the finish
line in the Merrimack Cup race with my canoe (Big Red) half submerged and me paddling like
mad for the finish line! The picture |

| above is my son and daughter (Joe & Jen)
climbing into the guitar boat (DreadNot) that they spent the summer building. Many
more pix inside! The first 3 albums are photo
essays of the construction of the 3 boats that the Flis family entered this year. I
hope you find it as interesting as I do how these things go together and how exciting it
is to watch it take shape from a collection of old boxes to such a wonderful, functional
craft.
NOTE: All of the photographs found in the
photo albums below are available in higher resolution, some suitable for printing.

resolution, feel free to drop me a line at jflis@hotmail.com
I have no problem emailing you copies (within reason, of course *S*) of these

This is the same photo
album from 1999 but is included here for completeness. Big Red is the first
cardboard boat to compete 2 years in a row. Big Red also has the distinction of
being the only cardboard boat to win the Merrimack Cup two years in a row! |
